There was a time i wrote on twitter about how I was out eating and a family came in to the restaurant to eat and their domestic help/nanny didnt eat anything, and also sat on a different table and I thought it was so disgusting.
Thats how I went out with my son’s nanny one time and after saying she didn’t want anything, insisted on sitting at a different table cos she ordered swallow and wanted to eat with her hands and was shy. I had to beg her o, pliss eat it here before someone tweets about me 🤣🤣
I mean I still think that family was dodgy cos it was Southern Sun buffet, and they were giving her stuff off their plate, then argued at the end that she didnt go to the buffet so they shouldn’t charge them for her.
But the real moral of the story is, you can’t get a full picture from one glimpse, assumptions and dat. Someone tweeted how its segregation to make staff wear uniforms, meanwhile every staff i’ve ever had asked me for uniforms cos they don’t want to over-wash their clothes.
I get the drivers basic dress shirts, and pants, and the nannies pick their own style and fabric from a catalog and we sew them “home” uniform and “going out” uniform (playdates etc). They are free to wear their own clothes if they choose.
Everything isn’t always as it seems on the surface, I guess. They have so much less than us, are more careful & protective of their clothing. Last time I travelled I bought a few dresses for my cook and I’ve already gleaned they have become her “special” church/outing dresses.
