the most effective form of therapy, so far, for domestic abusers is called "Batterer Intervention Programs". it is a 52-week course in order to rehabilitate those who have been charged with domestic abuse to not be abusers. this is combined with jail and probation /1
it’s a program of classes, lectures, group discussion, 1on1 counseling. the course goes through a range of personalized material for each abuser from how DV affected their victims, the type of trauma they caused, how DV affects children, strategies to hold them accountable /2
teaching them how not to be an abuser. it’s a victim-focused form of rehabilitation. It’s to reinforce accountability and remove of old practices of asking “what did she do to you to make you act this way?”. /3
however, these programs are still relatively new and evolving. it’s not perfect and studies are still being done to see its efficacy in the long term. what’s important to note that even with all this, there is STILL unfortunately a recidivism rate. /4
there are those that re-offend and fall back into the exact same behavior of abuse. my point in all of this is to highlight that even at the most comprehensive therapy, combined with jail and probation, there are men that commit domestic violence again. /5
so when in our music scene all I see AT MOST is an apology on a TWEET, or at worst nothing at all, yeah, I don’t believe they will change at all. People like nohidea (eleven), Burbank, etc., need intense therapy and rehabilitation. /6
this isn’t normal behavior where you can just suddenly change your mind. these people have a FUNDEMTANALLY maladjusted view of interpersonal relationships and people. this sort of stuff needs therapy and lifelong commitment to combat. /7
what makes it worse is that someone like nohidea (eleven) is insulated by his money and power. he is one of THE most streamed artists in this scene still unfortunately. he makes roughly $1000 a day, PASSIVELY. /8
I don’t make this as a callout but more so a plea to those who see themselves like nohidea or Burbank. PLEASE GET HELP. Whatever therapy you need, GET IT. You CAN change. Break that cycle before you hurt another person again. /end
nohidea, Burbank, whoevever, you may fear punishment of the law, but there are BIPs that are voluntary and in California. I found this through a quick google search. https://www.thecenternow.org/
my heart goes out to all the survivors. these abusers are a cancer to society that need to be treated through the law, de-platforming, and years of therapy/rehabilitation. please do not excuse this behavior in our scene and blindly only see their art.
