So we're cool with making workers provide doctor's notes as a form of attendance enforcement, but if it's a matter of public health during a pandemic, doctor's notes are a no-go?

Economy over people huh? https://twitter.com/l_stone/status/1311747117292105731
Look I understand testing centres are overwhelmed. If school reopenings was actually handled properly with strong physical distancing, good HVAC, & proper access to supplies AND you paired that with paid sick days for all, then I can see an argument being made about doctor notes.
But that's not what we have right now. We have a situation where there are large indoor gatherings in places known for spreading illnesses during a pandemic that involves a virus with symptoms similar to the flu.

There's also a consistent past practice of going to school sick.
We have not properly addressed the reasons why people get sick in schools or why people send their children to school sick. Instead the approach seem to be to scold people for not keeping their kids (or themselves) home when they're sick.
I understand that Dr. Yaffe might be speaking from a medical point of view while I'm viewing this from a labour point of view. But you can't separate the realities of people's situations when giving medical advice, especially when there are politics and public policies at play.
If you simply make statements from a medical point of view and make no attempts to even acknowledge people's political, financial, and/or social realities that may prevent them from following best practices, then how is that going to help people?
