If the person already submitted an IRS Non-Filer claim and was denied because they were incarcerated, they will also automatically receive a check. The IRS has been ordered to send a payment within 30 days to the address submitted through the Non-Filer claim.
If the currently or recently incarcerated person filed taxes in 2018 or 2019, they will automatically receive a check. The IRS has been ordered to send a payment within 30 days to the address listed on the tax return.
If the currently or recently incarcerated person did not file a 2018 or 2019 tax return and has not yet submitted the IRS Non-Filer claim, they MUST submit a claim by October 15, 2020.
