I kept my own name at marriage. I do not hyphenate it. Heck, I won't even go by Mrs. Caruso at the boys' school.
There is literally not a single legal or personal artifact in existence where I am Caruso.

Even our annual family x-cards (for which we are infamous) are signed "Julia Carreon, Chris Caruso & boys."

But it's yet another infuriating example of patriarchy in society, where women are encouraged or expected to defer to men.

(Don't @ me that this is slam against women who have taken their husband's name. It's not. I obvi believe EVERY woman has the right to do whatever she wants.)
