I refuse to be negative about Nigeria, I refuse. The Nigeria of our dreams once existed and will exist again. Happy Nigerian Independence Day!
I am going to put up a massive Nigerian Flag in front of my house from now on. I will be in a patriotic state of mind. Despite the challenges that exist. I choose to believe in the promise of Nigeria.
The lack of patriotism in Nigeria is why we are here today. Our leaders who are Nigerians, mismanage our country with impunity and we, the citizens allow them to do so because we are not patriots.
Every developed country you reference today have a history drenched in the sweat, blood and tears of their forefathers through trial and error, carving their nations. The question I ask is are we ready to do the work?
Really fight for this country. You can see in the US the fight for the soul and values of their nation. I would say majority of us don’t. Not because we lack the capacity but somehow social media has deluded us that our job is just to be the critics
point out everything wrong with Nigeria, compare Nigeria to everywhere else and the buck stops there. I keep saying this if the local government that arguable has the wealthiest and most educated concentration of Nigerians in Nigeria Eti Osa in Lagos cannot get organized
to elect a local government chairman from amongst them who could within that role make just that one local government remarkable, organized and effective. Then we are not ready to do the work. What are you doing to be politically engaged in your local community!
I hope that today we Nigerians particularly those of us who live here should reflect how we engage for the growth of our country. Government is you and me not some distant god.
And some hard truths the world is shutting Nigerians out, there is a limit on all the countries you can migrate to, even to go on holiday now is hard, Visa wahala plus Dollar. If you like even be lucky and get a second passport. It can be revoked. When it comes down to it.
It is in all of our collective best interest that this country works for us. So yes we have to be patriotic not because we like how it works but because it is our home,
we must fight for it because there is never any place like home.
