The one thing I take from Instagram Reels is that a large number of Americans are spending this killer pandemic (200,000+ dead in 6 months) and emerging coup (end of American democracy) dancing their asses off with giant grins on their faces and apparently not a care in the world
PS/ Every time I go on Instagram I& #39;m reminded how happy life can be if you spend not a moment of it thinking about what& #39;s happening to anyone else; I& #39;m sure that& #39;s unfair, but I have to say that Twitter, unlike Instagram, actually *registers* what the hell is happening in America
PS2/ I think this is clear to most readers, but I& #39;m not talking about social media feeds that register *both* the horror and hope in this era, I& #39;m criticizing feeds that are nothing but wide-grin dancing and selfies day after day after day after day after day after day after day.
PS3/ Even having said this, if those who use their social media to project to the world that they& #39;ve no idea whatsoever that anyone anywhere is suffering in historic ways—and that the American experiment is almost over—nevertheless go vote, I& #39;m fine with it. But I have my doubts.
