I know it isn’t pretty but ‘ our industry isn’t filled with highly skilled people’ is something we all perpetuate all the time. When we make that discerning comment about that person’s drama school, when we cast aspersions on particular casting decisions, (1)
When we denigrate the work of people who do regional theatre or resort-based work as under those working in London’s West End. When we do a myriad of things that perpetuate the idea that some are just more skilled than others. (2)
I know it isn’t popular and it’s a bit ugly but this government isn’t the 1st to cause whole swathes of industry professionals to feel like they are low skilled and of little value. It just so happens that this time we’re all being told it at the same time (3)
When producers and casting directors don’t let people know they didn’t get the job after auditions. When the casts finds out they’ve lost their jobs via the internet. (4)
