Placental abruption is a life threatening complication of pregnancy. Under abortion bans with “life of the mother” exceptions Chrissy Teagan would have had to bleed nearly to death before doctors would be allowed to induce labor.
How much would she have to be dying? Would coding be enough? Losing consciousness? It’s completely unclear in these “exceptions,” precisely to terrify doctors of a murder charge if they EVER perform an abortion for health of the mother.
Many ppl will choose to put their life on the line for a complication like CT experienced. That’s their right. But please, can you understand why it should always be a CHOICE. She has two kids that need her.
Please understand that it is incredibly hard for women to call induced labor for this an “abortion” bc stigma. And I don’t know if CT’s fetus has passed before they induced. So I am not opining on whether she did or didn’t have “an abortion,” I am saying these bans don’t care.
Legal restrictions WITH a life of the mother “exception” on inducing labor pre-viability is what killed Savita in Ireland.
When you tell me what happened to her (or to me or @RHAVote ) is “rare” all I hear is “I don’t care about your lives.”
