On this 🇳🇬 Independence Day, I want to highlight some authors with Nigerian ancestry who have new work out or are relatively less celebrated.

I'll start with my main guy, @TochiTrueStory, who has REBEL SISTERS, the sequel to WAR GIRLS, open to preorders: https://www.tochionyebuchi.com/books
NYT Bestselling Author, @jifueko, who just recently hit the list with RAYBEARER. Now in stores: https://bookshop.org/books/raybearer/9781419739828. You can read an excerpt on EW here: https://ew.com/books/2019/08/30/raybearer-first-look-fantasy/
@azemezi, who followed up their groundbreaking FRESHWATER and PET with their most recent release, THE DEATH OF VIVEK OJI, which became an instant NYT Bestseller. https://www.akwaeke.com/the-death-of-vivek-oji
@IrenosenOkojie, who won this year's @CainePrize with her short story "Grace Jones," which was published in her short story collection from last year, NUDIBRANCH. Previous books include BUTTERFLY FISH and SPEAK GIGANTULAR. https://www.hachette.co.uk/titles/irenosen-okojie/nudibranch/9780349700908/
@MsOlisakwe's UK debut, OGADINMA OR, EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT, tells the story of a naĂŻve and trusting teenager as she battles against Nigeria's societal expectations in the 1980s. Now out from @PressIndigoThe. https://www.theindigopress.com/shop/ogadinma
@TJBenson_ and I literally started writing around the same time, lol. His latest book, THE MADHOUSE, is forthcoming from @masobebooks. I hear it "chronicles the lives of an unorthodox family." Soon available here: https://masobebooks.com/books/the-madhouse/
Oof, broke the thread. Here's @SonOfOlokun's entry here. https://twitter.com/IAmSuyiDavies/status/1311676899135950848?s=20
@rafeeeeta has published short stories & essays in @strangehorizons, @OmenanaMag & @NightmareMag, co-produced a documentary ("Beyond Tolerance) and co-edited the anthology, SHE CALLED ME WOMAN: NIGERIA'S QUEER WOMEN SPEAK (which is my current read). https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/she-called-me-woman-azeenarh-mohammed/1127930194
Gotta go jump in a meeting, so taking a break. If you have recs of your fave Nigerian writers who either don't get the accolades or have something new out, drop 'em and I'll add to this thread.
Believe it or not, @WTalabi was one of those few people who gave me my first start. He's an editor, writer, engineer, and has been a finalist for various Nommo Awards, as well as the Caine Prize. He's edited a bunch of anthologies. A list of works here: https://wtalabi.wordpress.com/published-fiction/
Another fave of mine is @larimah. Way too slept on, in my opinion. If you haven't already, cop her debut collection, WHAT IT MEANS WHEN A MAN FALLS FROM THE SKY. Contains zingers like "Who Will Greet You At Home?" and "Light."

@renikamayo has two books in hand. DAUGHTERS OF NRI, first in the Return of the Earth Mother series, will be followed by DESCENDANTS OF THE FIRST, coming in March 2021. Both very striking covers. Now available for preorder. https://www.indiebound.org/book/9781916042964
@louisaonome_'s debut novel, LIKE HOME, is said to be "for fans of On My Block, In the Heights, and readers of Elizabeth Acevedo and Ibi Zoboi." Out from Delacorte in February 2021. Preorders now available. https://www.indiebound.org/book/9780593172599
If you don't yet know of @faridahlikestea, then better get on it. Her debut novel, ACE OF SPADES, forthcoming in June 2021 (in the UK), has garnered all the accolades, cos Black don't crack and Naija no dey carry last, etc. Anyway, go preorder.

Okay, this story will not edit itself, so I'll lay off the threading for now. I'll add as I think of more folks for the rest of the day.

Also, I too am Nigerian & have a book coming out, lol: SON OF THE STORM (May 2021, @orbitbooks). Go preorder now! https://twitter.com/IAmSuyiDavies/status/1303027077973602305?s=20
