Every Armenian in the world is watching the war in Artsakh and we know it is life or death. Both states fighting Artsakh and Armenia have virulently hateful policies that want to see us destroyed for even existing. The implications of the genocide are being felt today.
This is why we constantly battle for genocide recognition, because to understand today, you have to understand the last hundred years. Imagine being sandwiched between two states that have blockaded your borders for decades, but one is responsible for the genocide,…
…looted Armenian wealth to build their state, funds constant denial as state policy, and removed the indigenous claims of Armenians, while the other has a history of pogroms and ethnic cleansing against Armenians (as recently as the late 1980s)…
…and also denies the Armenian genocide as state policy, and then tell me what this war is about. When the Baku mayor told a delegation of German “Our goal is the complete elimination of Armenians. You Nazis, eliminated the Jews in the 1930s and 40s, right? …
… You should be able to understand us.” Believe them. This isn’t only about land, it has never been only about land. When a population is taught to hate for decades, the results can be dangerous. Armenians know it too well. https://twitter.com/philbagda/status/1310404019769274368?s=21
