Ok, so yes, it's great that today's #GoogleDoodle celebrates Ignatius Sancho as #BlackHistoryMonth
kicks off, but why are @Google using a portrait of Olaudah Equiano to do it??

The plot thickens. Some have noted in the replies that the portrait in the doodle (& which I posted) had been attributed to both men at different points (thank you). Currently, however, that painting is apparently attributed to none. Probably best we consider these instead?
And here is the link to the info posted in the replies. Am re-posting to bring attention to it. Given that the portrait is problematic, Google probably should not have based its doodle on it. https://rammcollections.org.uk/object/14-1943/
Finally, and to bring it back to the wonderful Ignatius Sancho, here is a link to one of his beautiful works:
Just want to add this great & a propos read from Paterson Joseph @ignatius_sancho to this thread: https://artuk.org/discover/stories/the-outrageous-neglect-of-african-figures-in-art-history
