Degrowth isn't synonymous with Malthusianism but I often think about how undervalued disabled people are in left spaces even if unintentionally so and it worries me.
Tbh the least desirable groups of people in this country are disabled people and sex workers. These 2 marginalizations are the first that fascists target in mass purges and no one cares when these canaries stop singing.
The passing and implementation of SESTA/FOSTA has literally killed people and made it harder to track sex traffickers and I'll never forget the rage I felt when a fellow DSA member compared pressuring Bernie on this issue to being given $100 and complaining it's not $101.
The failure of the ADA compliancy resolution at convention was a huge kick in the teeth considering that 2 years prior the disability working group staged a protest in opposition to unfair treatment from the org and were then harassed for months to to point of resignation.
A big reason why people voted it down was because of the estimated cost but like if we have to throw disabled people under the bus because we blew all out money already then what's the point of any of this? Imagine how expensive life is for folks with disabilities.
It just makes me sad that sooo many so-called leftists are SWERFS and/or can't take the time to be accommodating to disabled comrades. Idk I'm just kind of at my wits end. We're never going to win if we can't take care of the most vulnerable people.
I would also like to argue that there's a considerable lacking in a comprehensive understanding—from white comrades—of what it means to be anti-racist and/or to provide support for immigrants, but I'm done with this thread.
