For me, the chief issue with Kenley Jansen isn't speed, it's location. He thrives working either side of the edge of the zone. But when his pitches locating, hitters take and take. The Brewers got the tying run to the plate because Peterson saw nothing worth swinging at.
Last tweet should have said when his pitches "aren't" locating.

Anyway, Jace Peterson's run didn't mean anything. I'd have settled for Jansen throwing 50 mph to him if he could have just located correctly.
As with all closers, Jansen's few rough outings get way more attention than his many good ones. But the minute I saw that group of pitches to Peterson, I'd have had someone warming in the bullpen, because you wouldn't need much more evidence to see he wasn't right.
Jansen is a more heightened version of Kershaw. As long as neither one is making location mistakes, their velocity doesn't matter as much as people think it does.

Velocity matters to the extent it reduces their margin for error. So velocity is big. But it's not everything.
