As long as there's a line out the door of people who'd do your job for less, crunch will exist. https://twitter.com/TheIndigoGaming/status/1311523094880759808
This is also why silicon valley companies operate the way you do.

When people are lining up in the thousands to work at Google, having a 60-70-80 hour/week pace as baseline becomes inevitable. For the same reason: a horde of people who are willing to do more work for less pay.
Supply and Demand isn't some mathematical approximation that economists cook up. It's what determines the value of something, regardless of the economic abstraction you're operating in.

It holds for a serf serving a feudal lord, or a hunter/gatherer bartering over beads.
It holds for a central committee planning a communist economy, and it holds for a restaurant owner shopping at a fish market in a free market economy.

It's a brute fact. Like gravity or evolution. You don't have a choice in whether it exists. Only in how you respond to it.
