SOOOOOOO ive been bamboozled. Yeah I knew that the popular vote doesn't REALLY vote for the president as a single vote in itself but here's some clarity I just got on the subject because im honestly just as confused as the rest of yall on this app.......
The popular vote DOES matter, its just on a state by state level. When we vote we are actually voting for are the ELECTORS. Each party chooses a slate of presidential electors in each state. When we go to the polls we are choosing between the two to determine which GROUP ....
gets to cast their vote for our state. So for example, my state, Florida, has 29 electoral votes. Every 4 years, each side chooses those 29 potential electors. It might seem like "im voting for (dem) (rep)" but one vote for each side is a vote for which SIDE is .....
chosen to represent the state for that election. Therefore, one vote for *rump = a vote for the 29 members on the electoral ballot and one vote for (*iden) = a vote for the 29 members of that side that would be chosen to represent the state for THAT party.
