“Why I am leaving the country if Trump wins: a thread”

I’m not voting for the guy, but...why have you not left for the last 4 years ? 🤷‍♂️
Walk the walk, don’t talk the talk. I am old enough to remember the highly publicised “I am leaving the country if Trump wins” opinion pieces back in 2016x
I am personally very optimistic about the USA over the long term - the best days for the USA have yet to be seen - but that doesn’t mean we won’t experience rough patches/periods #cycles
Why am I optimistic, @Bamfurlough @16k_aum ? US history seems to go through cycles, as eloquently articulated below. We seem to be in the “defending what I have and throwing stones at others” phase right now. I don’t see why we don’t revert back later https://twitter.com/credit_em/status/1311545476483870721?s=21 https://twitter.com/credit_em/status/1311545476483870721
A close examination of us history to me indicates these struggles between those 2 extremes of the cycle are necessary in order to reconcile 2 otherwise irreconcilable intrinsic features of USA since inception: the genocidal origins vs the noble ideals “all men are created equal”
Not too long ago, non whites couldn’t vote in the USA. 1 generation ago! Prior to that, women couldn’t. Thus I’m not hopeful about the future of the USA because all is fine, presently: rather it’s because USA has since inception wrestled with its demons, refining in the process.
If you think the debt + demographic trajectory of the USA looks bad... look outside the USA, cc: @freegolds #DoomSells :
