Another meta-analysis based on 5 RCTs (5,577 patients) suggesting HCQ was associated with a ~24% [~3%-41%] reduction in a 'compound metric' of #COVID19 infection, hospitalisation and death. No serious adverse events were reported.

The manuscript is a bit too minimalistic and I assume the writeup was probably rushed. There are also some oddities such as "All calculations were done in Excel" (?!). That said, I have no a priori reason to question the main findings and have no doubt it will be scrutinised.

It would be a remarkable conclusion to this sorry saga if HCQ turned out to be a good prophylactic drug for #COVID19 in the end. The final outcome of the HCQ saga can only be settled by a large RCT investigating its potential prophylactic benefits.

The whole HCQ debacle encapsulates a lot of all that has gone wrong with our approach to #COVID19. It is depressing to reflect on all the unnecessary and unhelpful rage, anger, insults and politicisation around our response to #COVID19.

For me, the HCQ started like this, on a high:

From there, it became darker and darker, e.g.:

It would be such a relief if there was some sort of happy end to the whole HCQ saga ...
