OKAY it's October somewhere. #naptober nap #1: WWX falling asleep against LWJ's back while he finishes correspondence, forehead resting on LWJ's shoulder. It cannot possibly be comfortable, but every time LWJ tries to get up to move him to the bed he happily nuzzles in.
#naptober nap #2: the ever-versatile Husband Weighted Blanket. When it's LWJ lying on top, it soothes WWX's frenetic energy and lets LWJ fall asleep to WWX's heartbeat. When it's WWX lying on top, it's Husband Mattress for WWX and LWJ loves when WWX sleep-mumbles into his chest.
#naptober
WWX: mmpphmmr
LWJ: Hm?
WWX, still asleep: [lifts face slightly] Soft. [tucks face back into chest]
LWJ, stroking his hair, Deceased: Thank you.
#naptober nap #3, inspired by staying up way too late: sometimes WWX thinks that MXY's body has this innate sense of WWX's sleep debt. Sometimes he wonders if MXY slept as a little as he did. Whatever the case, he pillows his head against LWJ's thigh and sleeps for both of them.
#naptober nap #4, based on this godtier headcanon from Aiwen: WWX sleepily hanging off LWJ's elbow after an unexpectedly deep afternoon nap, LWJ fondly watching Sizhui and Jingyi give WWX a full night-hunt report knowing he does not comprehend a word https://twitter.com/tothedeaths/status/1303171348643020800
#naptober nap #5: [bass-boosted] MODERN YUNMENG SIBS COUCH NAP IN COZY SWEATERS. The sweaters are one of the siblings’ first knitting attempt at anything more complicated than a scarf and they are adorably ugly. Who made them:
#naptober nap #6: Wangxian+Sizhui making camp after a grueling night-hunt. Sizhui rests his head against WWX's shoulder while LWJ builds the fire, and WWX absently fusses at his hair, like he did when Sizhui was small. LWJ finally settles behind them so they can lean against him.
#naptober nap #7: a quick post-travel rest in an unfamiliar town, on an uncomfortable inn bed, before they get to work. LWJ meditates. WWX sleeps pilowed on LWJ's thigh, face turned into LWJ's stomach, his warm little puffs of breath lulling LWJ into the drift of the afternoon.
#naptober nap #8, I was so excited about WIP Wednesday I almost missed this: LWJ's eternal struggle of whether to move WWX to the bed when he drifts off midday, or leave him where he's curled up. (Usually the winner is 'shift him to a comfier position and lie down next to him.')
#naptober nap #9: WWX may be a bit shorter and narrower than LWJ, but when it's time for him to be the big spoon, WWX gets the job done. Maybe not everyone would find their husband clinging to them like an octopus particularly soothing, but there's nowhere LWJ would rather be.
#naptober nap #10: WWX tends to talk in his sleep when he's stressed, but as he gets more settled, it gets markedly less - terrifying. The first time he sits bolt upright, shakes LWJ awake, mumbles "we're out of oil" and immediately crashes again, LWJ's weirdly happy about it.
#naptober nap #11: WWX's belief that if he shoves his entire face into LWJ's neck, it will make the sun change its mind and give him an extra hour of sleep. (Worst case scenario, he still has to get up, but LWJ is way less inclined to extract himself from whiny clingy husband.)
#naptober nap #12: when LWJ has nightmares, he needs to look at WWX. When WWX has nightmares, he needs to be told where - when - he is. (1/2)
WWX gets used to lighting a candle before he's really awake. LWJ gets used to tightening his grip and saying, we are in Cloud Recesses, in the home we share. We have been married for one year and two months. We are all safe. (2/2)
(THE RESPONSE TO THIS LAST ONE MADE ME SO WARM, I LOVE Y'ALL.)
#naptober #13, concept courtesy of Lore: Jin Guangyao would probably look positively angelic when he naps, with those round cheeks and those dimples. Joke's on all of you, though. JGY has not closed his eyes in front of a potential enemy since he was three years old.
(In the words of @aubrey_li, it's not even because he's a villain, it's because he's a project manager.)
#naptober #14 in honor of everyone's incredible Jiang Cheng foster dog dad hcs: Jiang Cheng stretches out on the floor with a giant, incredibly timid St. Bernard until the dog is comfortable enough to approach. They end up power-napping together in the late afternoon sun.
#naptober #15: Jin Ling sprains his ankle night-hunting, and despite vociferous protests, he gets a piggyback ride home courtesy of his da-jiu. A cheery but slightly out of breath WWX falls into telling stories about JYL's childhood. Halfway home, JL falls asleep on his shoulder.
#naptober #16: Sleep eluded Hanguang-jun sometimes, when Sizhui was young. Sizhui would try to stay up with him, would inevitably fall asleep on his shoulder eventually, but until then, they'd sit up together, facing the path, like they were waiting for something. (1/2)
Now neither Hanguang-jun nor Sizhui himself sleep well when Wei-qianbei has to travel alone. Sometimes they still sit up together on the porch of the Jingshi, watching the path. Thankfully, Wei-qianbei never leaves them waiting long anymore. (2/2)
#naptober #17: Every so often, LWJ has a little wine - he likes those few moments of drinking with his husband, even if it's all a blur on from that. At the end of a night of chaos that WWX will recount to him the next day, WWX helps him undress and tucks him into bed. (1/2)
"What are you pouting for?" WWX will laugh. "Is there something the great Hanguang-jun wants of me?"

LWJ will blink up at his husband's face, soft in the low light. "Stay."

"Lan Zhan, ah, Lan Zhan," WWX will say, tracing patterns on the quilt. "Where else would I be?"
#naptober #18: Fairy's fur is so warm, especially when you have to make camp during those cold night-hunts. When WWX isn't there, she cuddles up to whichever junior is shivering the hardest. (1/2)
When WWX IS there, Jin Ling has quietly trained Fairy to hang out out of sight until he's asleep, at which time she'll curl around Jin Ling with a happy lil huff. By the time the juniors have managed to wake up WWX the next morning, she's obediently retreated again. (2/2)
Bonus: When WWX is cursed and unconscious one night, Fairy keeps him warm while they wait for LWJ. WWX will never know and the secret will die with all of them.
#naptober #19: NHS is a master at pretending to nap in public: there are few better ways to eavesdrop, really. But NHS comes by this talent honestly. When he was little - and a few times when he was older - he used to feign sleep so that NMJ would cover him with a blanket.
Bonus: NMJ isn't there to cover him anymore. But sometimes people still do. (One memorable time, Jiang Cheng threw a cloak over him, grumbling all the way.) Once NHS accidentally drifts off for real, and wakes up to find WWX stretched out close by, wine and two cups by his side.
#naptober #20: modern AU Wangxian have some difficulty finding date times at first, between LWJ's teaching and WWX's assortment of jobs. But when WWX falls asleep 20 mins into their hard-won movie day, tucked into LWJ's neck, LWJ can't find it in himself to be disappointed.
(WWX is embarrassed and frustrated with himself - a whole day with LWJ and he feels like he's wasted it. LWJ points out that it doesn't have to be just a day. LWJ is off tomorrow. WWX isn't scheduled until 5 the next day. If he spends the night, they have time.)
(They don't spend many nights apart after that.)
#naptober #21: Wangxian on a 15-hour flight. Lan Zhan is the one who sleeps on the plane, in a soft cardigan and eye mask set with Wei Ying's hand in his. Wei Ying, who's too wired to sleep in transit, unwillingly crashes the second he finds a soft surface at their destination.
Bonus: Places a jet-lagged Wei Ying has fallen asleep:
- the hotel bed
- the hotel bathroom (heated floor!)
- a taxi
- Lan Xichen's shoulder
- Lan Qiren's shoulder
- a pool raft
- the grass, during a round of hide and seek at Lan Jingyi's fifth birthday party
#naptober #22: Wen Ning doesn't need to sleep. But he likes to be still, and he likes to sit with people quietly, so people tend to... fall asleep on him. If WWX looked tired, Wen Qing send him to do chores with WN. He'd be out cold on her brother's shoulder within the hour.
#naptober #23: it's not that Jiang Yanli means to have an avalanche of adorable, slightly embarrassing pictures on her phone. It's just that she approaches very quietly and her camera app is always ready. (1/2)
Her favorite, though, is a video: her husband and A-Xian asleep next to each other on train, kind of tilted toward each other, mouths a little open. Jin Ling sits between them, happily drumming a little tune on the seat. (2/2)
#naptober #24, thanks to my day of being sedated: before they're together, LWJ volunteers to drive WWX home from a minor surgery. Having been warned that WWX might act irrational or out of character, LWJ is prepared for anything - except for WWX curling up in his lap like a cat.
LWJ, sitting rigidly, hands hovering above WWX's head: Is. Is this out of character. Is it.
#naptober #25: Lan Xichen does not nap. LXC, in fact, prides himself on always getting the appropriate amount of rest: he falls asleep within five minutes, wakes with the sunrise, and breezes through his routine. And when he travels, he always sleeps on the plane. (1/2)
Jet-lag hits him for the first time at 25 like a freight train, after a flight from Shanghai to NYC. He has never been so betrayed.

"I'll shut my eyes for five minutes," LXC says. LWJ is already pulling a blanket over him.

"Mm." His brother's lips twitch. "Sleep well, Ge."
#naptober #26: I am very tired this evening, so let's go for a classic: Wei Wuxian, almost uncomfortably full from dinner, curled on his side on their bed in the Jingshi. LWJ lies opposite him like the other half of a clam shell, steadily finger-combing his hair.
#naptober #27, from the Conjuring AU because I'm still celebrating: exorcist LWJ and medium WWX grabbing a quick nap in the client's guest room knowing they'll be up all night waiting for activity. They're woken around dinnertime by a knock. (1/2)
But it's not at the door. It's from inside the wardrobe next to the bed. Light but insistent knuckles, taptaptapping on the other side of the door.

Wei Ying's smile is lit by the setting sunlight. "Oh good," he says, stretching like a sated cat. "I like an early start." (2/2)
#naptober #28: Being at Lotus Pier is hard on WWX. Even if the visit is perfectly nice, even if things are going well with Jiang Cheng, there's always an ease that's going to be missing. This particular visit, they arrive in the morning and WWX looks tired by the afternoon. (1/3)
LWJ is angling to get WWX a break, when Jiang Cheng looks at them and clears his throat. "Wei Wuxian," he says, "I don't have time to entertain you until dinner. Show your Hanguang-jun to the guest rooms for now. Anyone would be tired from flying you all the way here." (2/3)
LWJ will never understand why Jiang Cheng can't just say what he's clearly thinking: you look tired. Rest. But as he steers WWX out of the pavilion toward the guest room, where he'll fall asleep in seconds to the steady lap of the water, he does offer JC a nod. (3/3)
#naptober #29: Sizhui, arriving home from a night-hunt earlier than expected, goes to greet Hanguang-jun and Senior Wei... only to find that they've gone to lunch in Caiyi. He knows he'd be welcome in the Jingshi, but the sun is warm, and there's a comfortable breeze. (1/2)
So he settled on the porch and tilts his face into the sun. When Hanguang-jun and Senior Wei return and hour later, they find him sitting neatly upright, chin tucked down to his chest, fast asleep. (2/2)
#naptober #30: even when he's half-asleep, Wei Wuxian is always moving. Sometimes he's just clumsily, blissfully playing with Lan Wangji's sleeves, like a cat kneading fabric. Sometimes he patpatpat's at one of LWJ's hands, which LWJ has come to understand means 'hold me.' (1/2)
When LWJ reaches out to wrap him up and tug him closer, WWX will let out the happiest little sigh before he sinks into sleep. (2/2)
