After the 2 mega-airports in #China, let us bring you up to speed with the largest airport expansion project in China's aviation history, the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) 3rd stage expansion. Everything inside the red boxes is part of this expansion. #avgeek
As we mentioned in a previous thread, this expansion includes 2 concourses, 2 runways, and 1 new terminal. It will also pave the road for an APM network within the airport linking T1/2/3 and their future satellite terminals. https://twitter.com/FATIIIAviation/status/1304072147766136832?s=20
Upon completion, CAN can handle 120 millions passenger and 3.8 million tons cargo yearly, a whopping 50% and 52% jump in capacity. The existing T1 & 2 will take the largest single terminal structure title in China after the new concourses merge them as 1.
And this is what T3 will look like from the outside when it is finished. It has a similar shape with Chongqing Jiangbei's T3. Airport terminal designs in China are showing clear 'generation' trends that changes every few years.
CAN T3 interior design is a love child between Baiyun & Changi. So you can see a lot of greenery inside the terminal just like SIN. T3 also features several large vertical openings that gives the massive terminal a much more spacious visual.
CAN T3 will again incorporate outdoor gardens in airside, which was a feature in T2. This terminal will be primarily used by Air China, China Eastern and their affliated airlines .
CAN T3 will come with the first integrated compreshensive Ground Transport Center (GTC) in the airport, in which you can shop, take a bullet train and even check-in for your flights so you can go straight to the gate or spend more time to enjoy the airport facilities.
Meanwhile, Guangzhou's home airline China Southern will not move again as they just moved to T2 a couple years ago. Instead they will take advantage of the largest terminal in China as T1&2 finally connected as 1 by the East/West 4th concourses seen below.
Once connected, 5 out of 6 east concourses will become a combined international zone, while the west concourses and East 1 concourse will serve domestic flights. Each side will have their own APM systems.
