ghost of parenting future here - techie parents who love to write code and are so excited to teach their little ones to do it and they’ll be young genuis coders: uhhh I have some news for you
We don’t get to decide what our kids are interested in. We can offer to share the things that give us joy but we have no control and little influence over what they will like.
Okay also while I’m ruining everything: just because your kid eats all vegetables when they are 3 does not mean you figured out how to feed your kids right and you win!!! 10 years later they may very well have reverted to macaroni and cheese and you can’t control that either.
If they beg you from a very young age to take cello lessons and you finally let them do so it does not guarantee that 5 years on you won’t be fighting daily over cello practice and having meltdowns before recitals until you let them quit.
If they happily do their homework and love school for several years that doesn’t mean they won’t turn around one day and decide it’s a worthless activity for which they can barely be bothered to get out of bed.
Basically we have almost no control and while we have a terrifying amount of influence the results of that influence are chaotically unpredictable. Outcomes decidedly not guaranteed, metrics are useless. Could all end in disastrous heartbreak.
The universe and your children will laugh at any time you allow yourself to be smug about your good parenting and yet obsessing about how you are screwing it up (which you are, in some way) is totally counterproductive. Also you don’t get paid and your kids might hate you later.
Anyhoo good luck with all that and abortion needs to stay legal and access needs to be expanded and as a society we need to do a way better job supporting parents and especially working mothers so vote for @JoeBiden and also let’s get more folks like @AOC into office and ALSO
Stand in and work in solidarity and not judgment with other parents as we all try to just hold our shit together in this total crapshow.
Probably give some money to @PPFA and demand that @JeffBezos pay more taxes so that we can fund universal pre-k and ensure parents and kids have housing, food, and healthcare rather than selectively opening preschools with his name on them so he can call himself a philanthropist
Thank you for reading my thread it turned out to be a wild ride from raspberry pi projects you think your kids will love to abortion rights to advocating that we seize billionaire money to fund social services like every other damn rich country manages to do
