CW: diabetic death
On 5/11/18 I got home from work and found Allen passed out, cold, barely breathing & in full DKA. I immediately started CPR & called 911. I did CPR until EMS got there and they took over. They worked on him for over 30 minutes before taking him to the ER 1/?

When I got to the ER, I was rushed back to Allenâs room. I watched, in panic, as the Drs and RNs worked on my son. I saw them work for over 2 hours dripping sweat and switching positions to try and save my son 2/
Over 2 hours of hell. I remember them trying to usher me out of the room to âcut him openâ and I refused to leave. I think I punched an orderly, but they let me stay. I watched in horror as my son was dying in front of me 3/
I remember th Dr telling me she was going to massage Allenâs heart to try to get it working and if it didnât, then there was nothing left to do. I watched this. I was allowed to hold Allenâs hand and talk to him. 4/
I begged him not to leave me. I told him I love him more than anything. Nothing worked. ToD was called at 123pm. I heard it called and I collapsed. I screamed at the top of my lungs and a big part of me died at that moment. 5/
Allen was 20. He just celebrated his 13th diaversary. 13 years of beating a disease that wasnât his fault. He died a horrible death that could have been avoided. 6/
Fast forward a year.. I found @t1international and #Insulin4all. I realized that Allenâs CoD was more than organ failure brought on by DKA. He was rationing his insulin. His monthly costs were over $3K a month. He was unemployed. He had no insurance. 7/
This is, sadly, a common thread in the US. Diabetics canât afford their insulin. It isnât *cheaper than water*. Coupons are smoke and mirrors. We have a crisis in the US thatâs killing diabetics. 8/
Our govt has allowed Pharma free reign to price gouge the insulin that diabetics need to live. #Insulin4all is a grassroots advocacy group that fights it. Setting bills in motion to make insulin affordable. 9/
Saving diabetics with a black market and an amazing support system. This is my life now because my son was murdered by a system that shouldâve saved him. I live in a constant state of fear & hell. All I want is my son back. I want justice for him. I want Allen back
