One of the mad things in GAA intercounty teams is the unreal expectations placed on players and then those expectations are thrown out to suit a particular agenda. e.g. Player on county panel since last November, training 3/4 times a week, sometimes in venues over an hour from...
... home.

Then the lock down.

Player is given a S&C program to follow religiously.

Be on zoom calls weekly.

Constant feeding of info.

Club championship comes along and players not on county panel play very well and rightfully get rewarded with a call up to the county...
... panel.

But this player missed all of the "necessary" stuff that others were asked to do.

So, it makes you wonder, was all that stuff actually necessary in the first place?

Training at 4.30pm in the afternoon, leaving school early just to get there?

Parents giving up...
... endless hours driving around and waiting in car parks for hours, if the player was not driving.

Bus trips away on weeknights, returning around midnight before having to get into the car to go the rest of the way home?

Why is all that stuff "necessary" when a bit of form...
... means all the other stuff was actually not necessary..

And not to say how all the other players feel about it when they committed so much time, effort and energy to do the "necessary", when all they actually needed was to show a bit of form at the right time..

It's mad..
