Today marks 15 years since I moved to Los Angeles to become a writer. Still haven't forged my way into screenwriting as planned, but comics has been treating me pretty well. Do need to work on that new spec pilot though...

I actually moved out to L.A. without a job lined up. I worked a customer service job for an abusive sociopath at the time. He almost chucked a stone paperweight in my face one day, and on another day screamed at me for not driving to work through the aftermath of a hurricane.
I decided I had enough savings built up to take a chance, traveled to L.A. with my mom, found an apartment, quit the awful job, and managed to find work at a better (not GREAT but not abusive) place my first few weeks here.
I went through a few better and worse day jobs out here, but NOTHING as bad as that place in Florida. Quit my last day job in 2016 to write full-time, and have been doing that ever since, with the occasional stint as a professional RPG player.
The funny part? I didn't actually WANT to move to L.A. I just felt like I was obligated to if I wanted to seriously pursue screenwriting.
Now? It's home. I love the circle of friends I've made out here. They're my second family. I can't imagine living anywhere else.

As for that shitty boss back in Florida? The dropship company he was trying to pass off as a major online retailer failed. Seemed that all his posturing and lying and abuse (along with a hefty dose of sexism and racism) did not a good businessperson make.
