One of the conditions for ending our strike was that the Maize and Blueprint be disaggregated by dorm. While Housing complied, and added a section that shows case count by residence hall, we have been disturbed by the inaccuracies we’re seeing: A THREAD. (1/9)
Today, we’re specifically referring to the ‘Residence Halls with Confirmed Cases’ section of the Maize and Blueprint. Firstly, it has not been acceptably updated. ResStaff requested this section be updated daily, but compromised with Housing to accept weekly updates. (2/9)
However, it has not been updated even weekly. The date it was implemented was 9/19, meaning we should have received an update by 9/26. It was updated today, 9/30, four days late. We have been waiting. (3/9)
When it did update, ResStaff were immediately confused. The case count was not updated to today, 9/30, but instead to the date Housing should have updated it, 9/26. This means the case counts are still inaccurate, and four days behind. (4/9)
We then noticed that the case counts were factually wrong. Disturbed, ResStaff began to check their own dorms, and noticed both under and over reporting. The only dorms that were accurately updated were those with low numbers (zero to two cases). (5/9)
Highlights include U of M under reporting by 9 cases in West Quad & five cases in Alice Llyod, and over reporting by 8 cases in South Quad (as of 9/26.) They also reported several individual cases in other dorms that we can’t find any documentation of. This isn’t all. (6/9)
We may not be striking anymore, but we feel it’s our responsibility to make it known when data is actively being misrepresented to the public. We were able to compile accurate counts based off COVID notif letters. This data is available to U of M as well—they published it. (8/9)
Simply put, the Maize and Blueprint is still lying. We’re here today to make that known. When U of M won’t show its work, we will. When U of M won’t provide accurate numbers, we will. We’re not gone, and we won’t be silent. (9/9)
