Why do Americans turn everything (even the practice of witchcraft) into a popularity contest?

Why is it becoming more & more important to create a witchy persona for your social media, rather than to actually study and practice witchcraft?
There’s only a handful of witches whose online persona actually reflects their practice and real personalities.

The rest are just using the same few “primers”, copying strategies and characters from fiction & reality alike, to project a witch that doesn’t even exist.
It would be endearing if it wasn’t so misleading and self-complacent.

An aesthetic doesn’t make you a witch. Cute videos don’t make you a witch. Showing off a personal library you haven’t actually read a single, complete volume of, doesn’t make you a witch.
Believe me, I wish I didn’t notice the things I notice. But I can’t help it.

I look at a person, *any* person, even just on a video or photo online, and I KNOW if they’re full of shit.
