grown men (@ jason rothenberg @ rob thomas @ joss whedon) like creating shows aimed at a teenage/young audience bc 1) they like feeling superior + more ~intelligent 2) they like the power trip that comes with it 3) by making their fans seem crazy, they justify their own bullying

fandoms are absolutely too intense sometimes. and no writers should /never/ write solely to pander to fans. but at the same time..... showrunners should not bait and mock their audience for getting too ~invested and seeing a better story in their very mediocre one.

it just always irks me that it is so acceptable to mock fans - especially young women/teenagers - for expecting more from their favorite tv shows and being disappointed when they are let down, time and time again.

the problem is most showrunners lack even basic respect for the people who watch their show. honestly. i& #39;d say most of them even seem to end up hating their audience and actively seek out ways to hurt them. it is a complete power trip for so many of them.
