been talking to kyle about something i’ve had a lot of trouble articulating, but i’ll try: liberal fatalism is really unhealthy? i’m a socialist. kyle wants to be, but he’s not there yet. and a huge block to that has been the very popular “the world is burning” mantra

i mean sure, socialists are in despair. we all are. but there’s something really dark about liberal despair, because it’s predicated by the fact that nothing is ever going to change, so we’re just grasping at crumbs from the DNC and that is how it will always be.

liberals also seem to think that feeling terrible is the most logical thing to do right now and there’s this constant need to make sure that everyone feels as terrible as they do in a way that i find quite debilitating. how do you keep that up?

how can you support the struggle when you don’t believe in it? how can you make connections, love each other, plan your life when you have no faith in the power of collective action? yes your dad (the president) sucks, but what’s next for you? what are your plans???
