Look, I get it that voting, isn't going to fix everything, but I still don't understand what people think is going to happen if you DON'T vote.
I mean, I see people on here, mostly from the left, trash-talking the very concept of voting as if it's inherently oppressive in some way? Which can only POSSIBLY benefit Republicans.
Yes, it would be nice if third parties had more power in this country -- maybe through instant runoff or something similar -- but right now the reality is a binary choice: Democrat or Republican. And Democrats are imperfect but Republicans are fascists who want to kill you.
Lack of engagement in voting is, like a lot of things, a feedback loop: if certain groups (like young people, or lefties) never show up to the polls, nobody in office cares what they want.
If you want to know how to get what you want in government, study what the anti-abortion religious right did. They've had ENORMOUS power and influence in spite of pushing opinions that a majority oppose even in so-called red states.
That said, one of their methodologies is "exploiting misogyny" which... I would prefer it if lefties didn't do that, although apparently some people (the "dirtbag left") are trying it.
Sometimes I think anti-democratic forces put out this "ugh, voting, why bother?" propaganda to provide *cover* for voter suppression --
So that, when turnout is low, instead of looking into the systems put in place specifically to keep some populations from voting, we see it as people making personal choices that are bad.
