The narration is all cut together, the music is all finished, and the graphic design is in its final stages. With the new Down the Rabbit Hole just a couple of weeks out, it feels surreal. [1/7]
This video has been unlike any other to make. I spent a month learning a new skill to properly write the script, and even then, the topic was so alien to me and so complicated that at some points, my goal was simply to capture how niche and precise it is.
When I write a script, I don't just want to know the facts; I want to understand. But in this case, the topic was so vast and complicated that many times, I felt that I would be unable to capture its vast scope. It took a lot of reassurance that I was worthy of it.
The music is also beyond anything we've done. Rather than being a background track, @ProbeComposer has made it follow the ebb and flow of the prose, rising and falling at particular, precise moments. We even hired session musicians for it, and my hurdy gurdy makes an appearance.
On top of this, I asked @Arcaxon to do one of the most difficult things a graphic designer can do, something well beyond his comfort zone, but he pushed on and did it. The fruits of his labor will be evident when the video launches.
Beyond this, the video is massive. The Wings DtRH was long because of how much source footage was used; this one has about 15 seconds of source footage, and yet, its runtime will be even longer than Wings. The music, from end to end, is 2 hours and 12 minutes.
Down the Rabbit Hole has gone from my own personal project to a team effort over the last two years, and this video is the culmination of that. So thank you all for being so patient with us as we put all of the pieces together. I think it will be special.
