Thanks to @Liberation_75 & moderator @p_salmons for putting on “Relevance & Sustainability: the Future of Holocaust Museums” digital program! This panel was made up of leading figures in Holocaust history and memorialization. My biggest take away from each speaker ⬇️

(thread)
Dr. Michael Berenbaum, conceptual museum and film developer:

“Museums present moving imagery to a moving audience.” Museums have to understand this relationship to be successful. ⬇️
Dr. Piotr Cywinski, @AuschwitzMuseum:

He finds the lack of reaction from Auschwitz’s 2.3 million yearly visitors to current genocide and hate to be disheartened. He wants visits to “wake up a moral anxiety” in people. ⬇️
Alice Herscovitch, @MuseeHolocauste:

She says Holocaust museums “don’t have a choice” but to change and adapt to the present-day technological advances to tell history.

She calls Holocaust museums to understand their duty to tell current social justice & human right issues. ⬇️
Zev Lanton, Museum of Eternal Faith and Resilience:

“Holocaust education works” and the story of “resilience is important” to humans. The new museum in Tel Aviv will combine the two while telling the narrative of spiritual resistance of the Holocaust. ⬇️
Dr. @EdnaFriedberg , @HolocaustMuseum:

The location of the USHMM has compelled the museum to understand the implications of telling Holocaust history & the themes of society. (example pictured)

She emphasized the museum as a “service organization” serving the entire U.S. ⬇️
Tali Nates, @JHGCentre:

The centre believes to effectively teach about apartheid (and the current refugee crisis) in South Africa, Holocaust education is the first step to change. It allows for visitors to understand peace & democracy in deeper capacity. ⬇️
Dr. Eyal Kaminka, @yadvashemschool:

As Director, Eyal is producing innovative, future-oriented educational tools to teach the Holocaust. Museums must be a leading source of education to ensure the authenticity of Holocaust history.
