Her body was cremated by the police in a horrifying video which shows the mother of the poor girl crying and begging for a chance to take her daughter's body home. India has never been a country for women but the reason this girl has received particularly brutal treatment- her body being burnt in public without her family's approval- is because she's a DALIT GIRL
Caste system was introduced through the Manusmriti, a sacred Hindu text dating from the second century BCE. The 'Untouchables'' consist of Dalits, Bahujans and Adivasis (Scheduled Castes) who have faced the unique evil of untouchability.
Untouchability is the belief that Dalits are polluted people at the bottom of caste hierarchy.The jobs considered polluting and impure are reserved for Dalits. These jobs include removing human waste, dragging away and skinning animal carcasses etc

crimes against dalits are suppressed by the police, politicians AND media which leads many Upper Castes to believe they are the oppressed ones

Dalit women face a unique form of oppression due to their caste, gender and class. As Dalits continue to be the poorest communities, a majority of girls sold into human trafficking and forced into prostitution are Dalits.
Many liberal and conservative Upper Caste Hindu feminists are conveniently ignoring the caste factors at play here. Their privilege blinds them from seeing the pain of Dalits and most importantly, dalit women so they conveniently ignore facts like these
