THREAD RE: MUSEUM OF THE HOME & GEFFRYE STATUE

I've received the full consultation results, and the minutes from the trustee meeting at which they decided to keep the statue up...

(1/?)
Minutes from the trustee meeting below.

Makes clear:
- Staff (incl senior staff) wanted it down
- The Museum's Faith and Culture Forum wrote to trustees to say it needs to go
- The Museum's Young Producers group did the same

Majority of trustees voted to keep it up.
71% of consultation respondents said take down the statue
79% of consultation respondents who live nearby to the museum said take it down
78% of respondents said the statue makes them feel negative
83% of local respondents said the statue makes them feel negative
Here is a summary of the most common answers to questions about how respondents feel about the statue, and the messages they think the statue sends to the local community
And here's the eight most common themes in respondents' answers to the question about the messages the statue sends to the local community
So, the consultation respondents sent the overwhelmingly clear message that the statue should come down, and that it sends hugely derogatory messages to the local community. Staff, incl senior staff, wanted it down. Trustees - many of whom are "DCMS appointees" - ignored them.
The DCMS have delayed their response to my FOI about their communications in relation to the statue. They delayed til 29/09, then emailed today to apologise that they haven't met that deadline either, but they "hope to send their response shortly".
