As a side note, it's highly unlikely that anyone at Tron actually has the p2p live streaming code I wrote running at this point. Everybody who worked on it before left, and the current product plans take no advantage of it.
P2P isn't about saving money on running a centralized service, it's about enabling anyone who wants to to run their own service with no budget. If you're already pissing away millions on flailing development you don't worry about the bandwidth bill, especially before usage
There's also the persistent phenomenon that anyone running a content tech project who has ever had dreams of getting into movies sooner or later succumbs to the delusion that their product vision is the real secret sauce and the technology doesn't matter. I've seen it repeatedly
Even worse is when biz dev people are doing deals. They'll sell their soul and put their career at risk to have lunch with C-list celebrities in Hollywood. People are starfuckers. It's sad and pathetic.
On a more positive note I made sure that the plans for BitTorrent v2 were in place before I left and am happy that it's now launched. Protocols can develop a lot of cruft after more than a decade. That the big announcement came from Arvid instead of Tron is very telling.
