why oh my girl's racism controversy has gone out of hand: a thread

read before making any verdict + i do not care for hate comments so dont even bother ur not gonna make me delete this

+ info about ca and racism in kpop, what's right and what's wrong
let's start out with a strong one - if you do not fall under any of the races that have been affected by the comments, you have NO SAY on whether oh my girl is racist or not.

you have not been affected by it and whether they were racist or not is up to those AFFECTED.
i see a lot of people who don't fall under the 'can be offended' side bashing on the girls.

unless you have valid reason to be offended (ethnicity, race, etc.), you have no place in this debate.

those who fall under a race that has been affected have the right to choose.
there is a difference between cultural APPROPRIATION, cultural APPRECIATION and STEREOTYPING.

i'm a mexican and i can tell that what seunghee said was NOT in harmful intent. tacos are stereotypically mexican. burritos are stereotypically mexican. stereotypes are the key.
i don't have a place to comment on yooa's music video, so i won't, but all i'll say is that there is no MOCKING of any cultures - it's cultural APPRECIATION.

it's 1-2 scenes. just skip over them if you're that offended.
cultural APPROPRIATION

the unacknowledged or inappropriate adoption of the customs, practices, ideas, etc. of one people or society by members of another and typically more dominant people or society.
if you still think that oh my girl is completely racist, then ALL of the following groups are also racist:

bts
stray kids
the boyz
bigbang
mamamoo
ateez
exo
(g)i-dle
verivery
red velvet
a.c.e
seventeen

+ many, many more: these are only a few examples!
a lot of people will disagree with a lot of the groups listed above, and i do too (for most of them), which is EXACTLY the reason why oh my girl should not be labelled as just racist.

i'm not an anti towards any of these groups, it was an example
i also forgot to add the 'curry' incident, i'm aware of the meaning behind this song and i do think that they should be more careful of this kind of thing

the song is definitely not okay, what they said was not okay - however they are not the only group to have said these things
i have a message for every k-pop fan:

stop normalizing cancel culture. stop normalizing hate. stop normalizing attacks. it was never cute. it was never funny. it was never and will never be a good thing.

put yourself in an idol's shoes: how would you feel?
i'm not saying that oh my girl aren't racist. i'm saying that you are not able to comment, debate or decide unless you are affected by the comments.

this also applies to ANY artist and racism claims. i say the same for all artists. you can only debate if you are affected.
i also know that apparently their 'company isn't allowing them to apologise', but keep in mind this is a RUMOR. nothing has been confirmed here.

i would normally say 'wait for an apology', but it's too late for one. fuck wm entertainment. you've ruined their image.
in conclusion, you have no social currency in this situation if you aren't in one of the affected communities.

on that note, remember that #BlackLivesMatter , they have always mattered, always will matter.
