I had someone respectfully criticize DoorDash as a source of income.

Their main point was the maintenance + fuel costs make the work "not worth it".

Let me explain why DoorDash makes more sense than you think.

A THREAD
In my original tweet, I posted my earnings from my first day.

It factored out to be $12.70 per hour after factoring in my fuel expenses.

Because there was some criticism, I decided to compare DoorDash with a $20/hour job that requires a 50 mile commute https://twitter.com/yorkeeem/status/1311139462856863746?s=20">https://twitter.com/yorkeeem/...
I& #39;m not sure why people seem to forget that commuting is a very real thing when it comes to traditional jobs.

I know few people in my city that make $20 an hour and don& #39;t commute at least 50 miles.

So what would the pay be if you factored in car costs like you do with DoorDash?
8 hours x $20/hour = $160 a day
50 mile commute each way = 1.5 hours each way
11 hours total dedicated to work.

I get ~220 miles per $40 tank of gas

That means I& #39;d spend $40 in gas every two days
Or $20 every day.

The take home pay is now $140 per "8 hour work day"
But, as I showed, that 8 hour work day is really taking 11 hours of your time.

$140/11 hours = $12.72/hour
$0.02 more per hour than I made on DoorDash yesterday.

I& #39;d also like that yesterday was my first day
I didn& #39;t even really know what I was doing.
I already know some of you are headed to the keyboards to complain about my gas data. So let me input different numbers for you

If you only spend $10 a day on gas with the same route:
$150/11 hours: $13.63 per hour

$5 a day: $155/11 hours: $14.09 per hour
If you don& #39;t think many people commute, here is an article from the Washington Post with some data proving against that:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/10/07/nine-days-road-average-commute-time-reached-new-record-last-year/">https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/...
Is DoorDash the BEST option for income?
No.

But it certainly isn& #39;t as bad as some people seem to think it is, especially when you factor in just how many people drive a comparable amount just to GET to their regular jobs.
How did you guys like this thread?

The sample data was based off of where I live, what I drive etc. The numbers may be different for you so I& #39;d love to hear what you think.

Have a great rest of your day!
