If we could just stop using racial shorthand and say what we actually mean re: Trump’s intended audience, that would be great.
Trump’s approach is jarring to me because I’m black and not a white supremacist. Trump has trans-class appeal because the white working class™ isn’t the only group of white people susceptible to/invested in/actively complicit in white supremacy.
Also Trump himself isn’t working class, did we forget this? He neither has a working class approach nor aesthetic, but he endears himself by challenging the perceived structural injustices of anti-racism and non-white advancement. The Southern Strategy is not new.
Love to see the white commentariat tripling down and coalescing around the ways working class whites are uniquely supportive of the president’s racism because it would simply be bad manners to be honest about the educated middle and upper class racists they rub elbows with :)
