I'm feeling preacher-y today. Buckle up.

I always say it was following Jesus that made a feminist out of me.

But it was also following Jesus that made me care about climate change and stewardship of the earth, Indigenous rights, missing & murdered Indigenous women & girls. /1
It was following Jesus that made me fully affirm the belovedness & humanity of our LGBTQ+ siblings. It was following Jesus that made me care about justice & borders, politics & theology, pronouns & fiscal policy, maternal health care justice & refugees. /2
It is following Jesus that compels me to decolonize my faith, to grapple with my privilege, to cast down and root out white supremacy from not only my own faith but from the structures and systems of my faith and our world, too. /2
It was following Jesus that let me love my Bible again because Jesus reminded me that he was the Word - the logos of God - spoken to us, and I could let the Bible be what it was instead of a fourth member of the Trinity (which is not good math but you get it). /4
It was following Jesus that led me to pray for my enemies instead of curse them, that lead me to love the ones I used to despise, that reminded me that no longer were we called servants but instead God called us friends.

This is an unforced rhythm of grace. /5
And why? Because Jesus reawakened me, recovered for me, restored me to the Gospel of Love. /6
Because this is the Gospel as I learned it at the feet of Jesus, hanging onto the hem of his garment: the width, length, height, and depth of God’s love is not fearful or restrictive or small or dull. /7
It is a wide open love that sets us free. It is a love that never steals, kills, or destroys us - it came that we might have life, & life that is more abundant. That it is this love that brings us rest, that lifts burdens, restores souls, opens hearts, changes lives. Amen. /end
