A thread about Bakugo Katsuki and Uraraka Ochako sharing the same flower - specifically camelia - on their attires and the meaning behind it.

#kacchako
First things first in order to understand the deeper meaning of these scenes it would be best to learn more about this beautiful flower.
So what is the deal with the camellias?

Camellias are a pretty popular flower species in Japan that is actually considered the Japanese rose. For that reason it is linked with many types of emotions and situations in the Asian culture.
It is also known as the "tsubaki"(=longing, love, waiting) flower, which as we will dive deeper into the post it will not seem as surprising as of right now.
In this case camellia depicts Bakugo's and Uraraka's feelings and their actions.
One really interesting thing about this flower is that the parts that constitete it stand for something different. To be specific its petals represent the woman and the calyx represents the man who protects her.
Question time:
Who is shown to be the only person in the entire movie to save Uraraka from danger?
Boom! Symbolism!
What's more is that those parts of the flower never separate. Usually when the petals of a flower fall off the calyx will stay intact. In camellia's case though, the calyx and petals fall away together, which is why-
+ the camellia depicts eternal love or long lasting devotion. In China, it is also believed to represent the union between two lovers, which adds more fuel to this moment.
And just like this we come to this moment.
~ This is a comic from MHA Smash~
So in these panels we have everyone teasing Bakugo for his outfit choices.
However, at some point Deku makes a very funny comment. Remember when it was mentioned that the flowers depict Bakugo's emotions?
Deku states that white flowers mean "innocence" and "deep respect". Now isn't this a parallel back to "Uraraka vs Bakugo" episode, on which we had Uraraka earning Bakugo's respect?
Innocence could be mentioned to describe deep respect which is well innocent. There were not shown to exist any type of particular "romantic" feelings at that time so it's fair. In other words the white camellias refer to the past.
Back to the comic, Deku adds that these flowers moreover mean "I am the one for you", which taking in mind they also symbolize eternal love even after death, could possibly point to them being each other's fate, basically soulmates.
Bakugo's reaction is to blast Deku and this is the result.
Bakugo's roses turn from white into red - Kaminari is even shown to be taking notice of it. Mineta continues Deku's explanation and informs us that in flower language red roses mean "a beautiful, passionate love".
So to sum up:
White roses= Deep respect, Innocence
Red roses= Love, Passion, Deep Desire
Bakugo's white roses turn to red=
Bakugo's deep respect and innocence turn into love and desire.
And somehow I reach the end of this thread. Thank you for sticking by till the end and listening to me analyzing these two dorks :)
