Having had the chance to reflect a little on the 'trustworthiness' paper and the differing responses to it (and the authors), here is what I think. Many people are mad / worried /combo of both about this paper - and justifiably. I get that and I also share these concerns.
Thank you to those who have pointed out these problems so lucidly & forced those of us who are lucky enough to have never had to worry about the implications of such algorithms to think harder & continue to question our judgement re: the kinds of applications we study or endorse.
I *personally* don't think it is helpful to post hateful comments towards the authors of the study. But that is my personal opinion & I know that reasonable people believe that the time has come and gone for ongoing civility and explanation. That's fine & tbh I get that too.
