So my Mom's oldest brother whose now deceased had an incident in the 1960s at an ice cream parlor which caused a riot in my city. My uncle was a teen at the time. He purchased some ice cream and when he asked for his change, the white store owner spit in his hand.
The black people in the parlor at the time started arguing with the store owner which alarmed other white citizens. My uncle left to go get his younger brothers & they came back to the store where a further physical altercation ensued. This altercation spilled into the streets
and became a full fledge riot. In the end, the white store owner left the neighborhood & my uncle had to leave town. As long as I could remember, he always lived in south Florida. Back then, black people had to give exact change or basically be cheated out of their money, that is
if they knew how to count money to begin with. My Mom told me white store owners cheated black people all the time and there was nothing you could do about it.
