Hello, its orange shirt day here in Canada which is the day you performatively wear an orange shirt to “bring awareness to Indigenous children who were in residential schools” as if CPS, jails and graves-
Are not still filling up with Indigenous children. As if we dont have birth alerts, as if we did not just witness what happened to #JusticeforJoyceEchaquan and acted like its a new phenomena
Not even 2 years ago the full list of children who were involved in residential schools were listed I witenessed family grieving lost ones they didnt know were lost, i have seen intergenerational trauma, and a distrust so great -
that they do not believe in anything the Canadian govt can do for them. The last residential school closed in 1996, and since then Indigenous issues have only increased and we are met with ongoing silence and lateral violence from the canadian state
Today is a heavy and traumatic day for a lot of Indigenous folks. Pls honour those lost, those finding their way back, and remember that just because residential schools are gone our trauma, our issues remain.
