R*pe is the most common crime against ‘women/men/lgbtq’ in India and it will continue to be until we decide to raise our voice and spread awareness against this odious crime.Protests aren’t the only ideal way of seeking change. WE NEED SEX EDUCATION in our curriculum, here’s why-
Perpetrators in crimes that involve r*pe and assault are often misguided and have an illicit notion of sex. Lack of moral and sex education often triggers curiosity in a person which might lead them to choose the wrong paths in order to satisfy the needs of their body and mind.
Discussing physical intimacy in public is still considered erroneous & shameful, which is highly problematic. Sex-ed is imperative for the masses of India irrespective of which economic background they belong to, in order to provide them a safe space to talk about their feelings.
Indians grow up in a male dominated environment, with little or no sex education. In rural areas, with very little contact with female peers after puberty, the problems keep escalating towards the downhill because nobody’s ready to talk about it!!
India needs sex education modules focusing on sexual assault and exploitation awareness in its academic curriculum as such lessons help to empower young people by highlighting women’s changing roles in society & also provide a safe space to address distorted views of masculinity.
