| A Man’s story |
This one is based on a true story of one of the richest man in the Philippines.

Who has a total net worth of estimated $19 billion before he died last January 2019.

This story was inspiring which is why I decided to share it to you all.

So here it goes.
This guy’s name is Henry Sy.

But before he was “Mr. Henry Sy” he was a no one and his experience made him one of the richest today.

So who is Mr. Henry Sy?

Here’s his picture:
Mr. Sy is known in our country by owning a company called “SM” or “SM Investments” which owns

-62 department stores
-56 supermarkets
-more than 200 small grocery stores

SM is one of the biggest and most successful malls in our country.

[cont]
It has different branches in different parts of the Philippines and owns an arena inside one of his biggest mall called “Mall of Asia Arena”
Since his childhood, he was not born with a silver spoon and Mr. Sy dreams to become a businessman

So he tried his luck in other countries and at 12, he moved from Xiamen, China to the Philippines to be with his father

He never looked back and always aimed to succeed in life.
Early business:

He went from buying variety of stuff from what we call in our country “divisoria” and sells it in their mini “sari-sari store” along with his father.

Sari sari store is like a go to store for neighborhoods. It looks like this:
It was going so well, until world-war 2 came and unfortunately, the store they built was destroyed and got robbed.

Leaving Mr. Sy and his family nothing, but still selling continued during the war.

After the war, he then decided to buy American shoes that were imported to them.
His success didn’t happen overnight.

He started college at Far Eastern University and earned his degree in commerce. With that, he started again selling shoes that weren’t accepted by international countries

[cont]
But before SM was established, Mr. sy faced rejections multiple times since the time he started selling shoes

Which is the reason why it was called SM as it stands for “shoe mart”

And as what I said, SM is now the biggest and most successful malls and company in our country
One of the most famous rejection he had was with the company called “mercury drug” which sells medicines.

There were 2 urban legends with the feud

#1: He wanted a space from Mercury drug premises so he could sell shoes yet turned down

[cont]
#2: He sold shoes on the sidewalk in front of mercury drug and was told to leave.

On whatever reason, Mr. Sy held grudge with the company and promised to never do business with them again.

Which lead him to buy Watsons and you won’t see mercury drug inside SM.
Here’s the pictures of Mercury Drug and Watsons
With those rejections and experience, Mr. Sy turned from broke to rich.

From irrelevant to relevant

From zero to hero.

From small to big.

The reason why Mr. Sy’s story is one of the most inspiring ones to most Filipino businessmen
Mr. Sy now owns banks and other different establishments which is also famous in the country.

With that, he’s showing us that even though you have a successful business, you should never rely on 1 alone.

Expand if you can. If he has more than 1 income stream, why can’t you?
Moral of the story:

-Use rejections as motivation

-Overnight success doesn’t exist

-Persevere and success is a guarantee

-Embrace failures the same way you embrace your success

-When you enjoy what you do, rest assured happiness and success is waiting

-Never underestimate
The point of this thread is to inspire us people who are aspiring to become entrepreneurs.

I’m sure every entrepreneur has that kind of story but it’s a great example of knowing your self worth.

Once people decided to cut you out, what you can do is to improve yourself

[cont]
Until tables will turn and you will be the one who’ll be chased by others.

I’m not saying revenge by cursing but show revenge by becoming successful.

Revenge is sometimes not evil, it’s sometimes a wake-up call to some people that they doubted the wrong person.
