The “go vote” crowd does not engage in politics outside of voting. They don’t organize, they don’t strike, they don’t care about politics until the presidency is up for re-election. They’re not even committed to their own cause by trying to help disenfranchised folks to vote.
They don’t throw registration drives. They don’t offer childcare Election Day. They’re not fighting to make it a federal holiday. They’re not committing to getting homeless folks into homes, with addresses they can place on IDs, to register...
They’re not fighting for DV survivors who can’t make their addresses public. They’re not fighting for undocumented immigrants to get a path to citizenship to be able to vote. They aren’t stressing the important of local elections. They’re not committed to voter education.
They’re not volunteering at the polls. They’re not organizing actions to stand against voter antagonism (while the opposing side is organizing TO antagonize voters). They aren’t doing anything but scolding Black people, PoC, low-income folks, and young people.
They want people to vote but they don’t want to admit the real barriers and hurdles it takes to do so freely in this country. They’re not even committed to that work. That’s what’s frustrating.
