It is apparently #InternationalPodcastDay. I'd very much appreciate it if you shared or listened to my newest podcast, Powers & Principalities, which looks at the social impact of Christian nationalism in America. Because it's, uh, relevant. https://open.spotify.com/show/3KLVkLLHWad9tFpjSxwQOM?si=JK1h-KGBTU6VNWzadAjE2A
Then I spoke with . @kathsstewart about her book The Power Worshippers, which details the various complex strategies that Christian nationalists have employed to direct American policy toward their interests: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2earN1xuvnsfpHByFsqNzF?si=wFpxb2ATSXaHXb0Ni-7atg
I also spoke with . @kkdumez about the role of the evangelical version of 'masculinity' that created the cultural norms of white evangelicalism that adores authoritarians who defy their own moral codes (sound familiar?) https://open.spotify.com/episode/7MVkliMinHVwZGaIWuxZKZ?si=1EX8jTCjRfWLrfsQ1eG26g
The following week, I spoke to . @socofthesacred & @ndrewwhitehead about their work quantifying attitudes toward Christian nationalism, incl. the helpful framework of Xian nationalist Ambassadors, Accommodators, Resisters, and Rejecters. https://open.spotify.com/episode/5fI3djtjgvnJXQM4RZVYkC?si=Ooxf5s6sSLCaMP-9c0Rlyw
Then I spoke with . @julieingersoll about the role Christian Reconstructionist teachings have had on the decades-long push for homeschooling & 'Christian education,' and the fundamentally anti-democratic nature of this movement: https://open.spotify.com/episode/2EcnrYG6LWO57UHFFRpO4V?si=3zQPDVxFRFmeGaFGYfoRcg
In the most recent episode, I spoke with . @sarahposner about her book *Unholy,* which provides an intellectual & social history of the New Right, the Christian Right, & the alt-right, & the throughlines that connect them. We didn't arrive here by mistake. https://open.spotify.com/episode/14lFHJ4zJPZUqrVX1IUUdB?si=FlsG4QqGQfG3nC-ckUoVAg
I am immensely proud of this body of work so far, and hope that it helps a broad audience begin to engage with these issues. These authors have deep knowledge in their areas of expertise, and it deserves considerable attention.
Make no mistake: Christian nationalism is an existential threat to our democracy. These books make a strong case for that, each providing their own lens on the issue. If you want to learn more about this topic, please consider listening. #InternationalPodcastDay
