Hi, if you missed the whole thing (good for you!):
- it was terrible
- that terribleness was because of the President
- Biden tried on lots of different approaches to the terribleness and settled, effectively and powerfully, on "ignore the bully and talk to the people."
- Chris Wallace lobbed all of the softballs to Trump and still couldn't get him to behave like a grownup (he started with SCOTUS instead of the NYT $ story; he asked him to denounce White Supremacists).
- There are people in my life who still don't take Trump literally or seriously. When Trump said "stand by" to a white supremacist group, the response might be "he's an idiot who is bad at talking." But this wasn't his first rodeo. I think he knew exactly what he was doing.
We will talk more about all of this today -- we'll have a recap set to music (because the world needs some levity) in IG stories and a mini-podcast on Patreon (I cannot guarantee how mini it will be). But don't be confused -- this debate was one person's disaster.
The President debated like he governs -- chaotically, narcissistically, untruthfully.
