This is new territory for Chelsea under Abramovich because the club are going to have to be patient. Every other manager that has come in before has inherited more talented more settled sides. They’ve taken their eye off the ball in the past few years with most signings...
....and as a result the quality of player in the squad has regressed. Every manager who has come on before Lampard has had instant success demanded of them, and rightly so. But I’d say given the situation we were in last summer window and losing Hazard, to finish fourth....
....and reach a final (albeit disappointing) had to be regarded as successful. But we’re in a position where we’re still miles from City and Liverpool so what’s Lampard’s objectives this year??
I’d say 15+ more points regardless of what position we finish, and improvement in CL..
....but to say four games in that it’s over for him and get Pochettino or whoever in is at best knee jerk and and worst stupidity. And should Lampard be treated differently to Conte and Sarri? Of course he should. He’s in the top ten most influential people in our history....
....so yeah, for the first time in 20 years at least, we do need to be patient, we do need to see where we are in six months and we do need to stop saying a manager/player has got to go after a couple of games. And I include myself in this. Afternoon btw.
