DOES FRANK LAMPARD REALLY HAS A SYSTEM (THREAD)
Lampard's playing style has come under fire lately after what many describe as lackluster performance from his side. Thereby raising questions about his ability to really take Chelsea to that level we all want.
There is need to
There is a need to understand how far we've come as a team. From Conte's 3-4-3 formation which is about compact defending and reliance on wing backs to move the balls into attack or fast switch through long balls to the front 3 who mostly position themselves in a way to catch the
Opponents on counter, down to Sarri who favored a more compact system that allows the team play short passes, with emphasis on dominating possession, opening opponents through slick passes. All these systems, have on their own served their purposes of winning us titles. But one
question that has persisted over the years is what is Chelsea's identity?
A sharp switch from a 3-4-3 system that required fast pace & energy to a 4-3-3 system that required players exchanging short passes has had the team making recruitments along this lines. The urgency
emphasised in Conte's system was against the quest to dominate possession with near accurate passes. The intensity in play really dropped at this point.
But coming down to Lampard's era, his emphasis has been has been on intensive & constant attack while dominating possession
throughout the game. Of course, it has not been perfect, due to the system the team was used to under Sarri and also the personnels available to execute that system. Clear cases are lack of fast fullbacks that can quickly recover when hit on counter, especially on the left wing.
A proper DM that can provide shield for the defence & won't be dragged out of position, a creative midfielder and enough threat wingers who can pose threat to opponents. All due respect to Willian & Pedro, they did their best but age wasn't on their side. Now with the new
Players coming in, Lampard can play his system which is simplified below:
- high pressing in the opposition half
-quick ball recovery with wingers tracking back
-wingers cutting in-field to allow fullbacks run through spaces behind opponents fullbacks.
This system requires much
hard work and time to achieve perfection. Unfortunately, Lampard doesn't have that time, he needs to grind out results while working hard to perfect his system. No doubt this is going to turn out good,we fans need to rally round our Manager and team and stay less reactionary
It will only get better, there are positives to pick along the path. There are obvious improvements.
