My thoughts on our @JECH_BMJ paper looking at mental health & health behaviours before & during lockdown (1/5)
1) As others found, big
in psychological distress. Some of this is normal, esp for people not used to life disruption (e.g. some young/relatively advantaged people).

2) Monitoring which groups are less able to recover from this shock will be important, some people will need help.
May be the case that the more advantaged are worse affected early on, but the less advantaged are more impacted in the long-term.

3) Alcohol use (binge drinking & the frequency of alcohol consumption) seems to have mostly
esp in middle aged, but it’s complicated. Some questions on this refer to the ‘typical’ day when drinking which is likely to have changed during lockdown, esp for young people.

4) Good that smoking rates have
, probably reflecting a
among lighter smokers.
